Netflixs The Out-Laws release date, cast, plot, and more

August 2024 · 2 minute read

On Netflix, a lot of prominent actors see big pushes for their content while more regular performers see their projects relegated to the background of the streamer’s algorithm. This may not get them as much notice, but they get some audience engagement, get to continue working, and one in this latter group is Adam DeVine. Soon, his The Out-Laws will be out on Netflix, and we have details.

To begin with, the film where the American entertainer plays a bank manager who discovers his future in-laws are prominent bank robbers will be available to watch July 7. Apart from DeVine, it features Nina Dobrev, Pierce Brosnan, and Ellen Barkin, and marks DeVine’s fourth collaboration with Netflix following prior work like When We First Met and Game Over, Man! While the first of those was a fantastical romantic comedy and the second was a comedy with action elements, it appears The Out-Laws will have a blend of action, comedy, romance, and crime throughout its 95-minute runtime. Apart from the wedding elements of the plot, the film’s Wikipedia page and a trailer available on Netflix’s official YouTube channel show more story.

Essentially, DeVine’s Owen is proven right about his prospective new family members when a different criminal captures his bride-to-be and demands Brosnan and Barkin’s characters buy her freedom by returning money they stole from her through robbing another bank. Owen agrees to help without a second thought, and at one point, even howls to the annoyance of Brosnan’s Billy.

“Just think of how many terrible decisions we had to make to get to this moment in time.”

The Out-Laws also features Michael Rooker, Blake Anderson, Lil Rel Howery, and Lauren Lapkus. It is directed by The Wrong Missy helmer Tyler Spindel, produced by Adam Sandler, and fans are lining up behind the concept if comments on the YouTube trailer are any indication. Here’s hoping it does better than the mixed or very negative reviews DeVine’s other Netflix work has. Worst case, he will always be able to move on as, elsewhere, he is still leading Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin for Peacock. Additional work includes The Freak Brothers and, when the DCU has to be reset again when yet another wave of creators comes in with a new vision, there is always the chance he could get to play the Flash as we ranked him as one of the best to ever do so.
